I have chords (things I got by ear :--)); I think sometimes the Stones were underrated, particularly when Mick Taylor was with them (he had worked with John Mayall (sp?) who Clapton and others had also worked with). In any case, here's what I got from their live recording. You might like some of the twists (suspensions and stuff). Do you know the words? It was the words I have the biggest problem with. I cannot understand some of what Mick Jaggar says. He's incomprehensible. Perhaps he forgot the words and mumbled something? In the meantime, here's some other chords to try on that song. Acoustic 1 ("Nashville tuning"- low 3 strings an octave up) this is the one which starts the song off, there are no bass strings which gives it that high sound. After the intro it mainly plays harmonics Acoustic 2 (Open G- D G D G B D) this is the main acoustic throughout the song. If I get some requests I will put this part down. Electric 3 (Standard tuning) this is Mick Taylor's classic backing and superb solo. If I get _lots_ of requests I might summon the energy to tab the solo, if I get hundreds I might even tab the whole part. For now, I will just do CRD. Despite having 3 guitars on the original recording, this one sounds surprisingly full with just 1 acoustic (standard tuning) and voice. Intro: G Am7 G Gsus Am7 G Bm G Gsus Bm G Gsus 1. (Please note I make NO guarantees about the words, I'm doing this on the fly, but it should be enough to get you started. Besides, I don't I ever really knew the words :o ) It's best to listen to a recording to get the strumming pattern... (In the key of C) C F I saw her today at the reception C F A glass of wine in her hand C F I knew she was going to meet her connection C F At her feet was a footloose man Chorus: C F (No) you can't always get what you want C F You can't always get what you want D But if you try sometime, F you might find C F etc... You get what you need... yeah, yeah..... BTW, If you are still at the point where an F chord if gruesome, then go ahead and just play in the key of D (play D instead of C, G instead of F, and E instead of D in the chorus). I did it that way when I was first learning the guitar. Hope this works and sorry for any mistakes or misjudgements. The tab for this would be really cool as the song really isn't strummmed... ...anyone? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | , . | | Onkar Meno Sharma \ / | | omenos@wolf.cs.washingon.edu [8o->--<__.| From undercover-request Tue Apr 6 14:10:45 1993 Received: by snowhite.cis.uoguelph.ca (5.64/1.35) id AA01426; Tue, 6 Apr 93 14:10:45 -0400 Received: from att-out.att.com by snowhite.cis.uoguelph.ca (5.64/1.35) id AA01420; Tue, 6 Apr 93 14:10:37 -0400 Message-Id: <9304061810.AA01420@snowhite.cis.uoguelph.ca> From: tucson@ihspb.att.com Date: Tue, 6 Apr 93 13:08 CDT Original-From: ihspb!tucson (Bruce A Salzmann +1 708 979 4071) To: undercover@snowhite.cis.uoguelph.ca Subject: anthology tab book, You Got The Silver chords Sender: undercover-request@snowhite.cis.uoguelph.ca Status: OR Undercover - The Rolling Stones Mailing List ---------------------------------------------- Well Aww-right! One such anthology tab book is: "Rolling Stones", by David Dalton copyright 1972 Amsco Music Publishing Co. ISBN: 0-8256-2669-2 (soft cover), 0-8256-2953-6 (cloth cover). Oh my, over 20 years old already? Hmmm. Anyway, it's one of my favorite Stones books: cool pictures, easy and interesting reading, record & film reviews, a discography, and (!) sheet music. It has the songs, including lyrics, for all Jagger/Richard songs through "Sticky Fingers." Actually, the sheet music is more appropriately called "fake" sheet music. But it's close enough to give an amateur guitar player an idea of the chords used. For example, "YOU GOT THE SILVER" Bb F7 Bb Hey babe, what's in your eyes? F7 Bb F7 I saw them flashing like airplane lights Bb F7 You fill my cup, babe, that's for sure Bb Bb Bbdim F7 Bb Fdim I must come back for a little more. F7 Bb F7 You got my heart you got my soul Bb F7 You got the silver you got the gold Bb F7 You got the diamonds from the mines Bb Cm7 Ab/C Cm7/F F7 Well that's all right it'll buy some time. Bb F7 Bb Tell me, honey, what will I do F7 Bb F7 When I'm hungry and thirsty too Bb F7 Feeling fooling (and that's for sure) Bb Bb Bdim F7 Bb F7 Just waiting here at your kitchen door? Bb7 Eb Bb Hey baby, what's in your eyes Eb Bb Is that the diamonds from the mines Eb Bb What's that laughing in your smile? Eb Edim F7 I don't care, no, I don't care Bb Hey babe, you got my soul Eb Bb You got the silver you got the gold Eb Bb A flash of love has made me blind Eb Edim F7 Cm9 F13 I don't care, no, that's no big surprise. For the F#, the index finger plays low 'E' string, 2cd fret while the ring finger gets the 'A' string, 4th fret. For the G, just move both fingers up one fret: index 'E' string, third fret and ring finger 'A' string, 5th fret. Since I am primarily a rhythm player, I use a simple strum pattern on the chorus. I usually strike the strike the chord and let it ring for seven beats. Then I strum four sixteenth notes and move on to the next chord. I hope I'm clear on that...It's kind of hard to describe... The tab you sent over the list helped me greatly...especially on "Paint it Black". I seem to have alot f trouble copying minor-key songs.. Thanks for the 'G' tuning tip. Mike
